For those of you who don’t know, LGBTQ+ History Month is a month-long annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual trans, and non-binary history, including the history of LGBT+ rights and related civil rights movements.
So in honour of LGBTQ+ History Month, we’re bringing you the best LGBTQ+ marketing campaigns of all time!
This year Skittles will be bringing back their Pride packs to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.
The rainbow coloured company replaces its typical branding colours with grey and white packaging. In 2017, they even released a letter addressed to the community which ready: “During Pride only one rainbow matters, so we’ve given up ours to show support.” What more? The proceeds from the colourless packs go to charity!
In 2017, Converse released a brightly coloured and detailed Pride Collection! The company said ‘YES TO ALL’- standing with the LGBTQ+ community to show that no matter your gender, sexual orientation or identity, everyone deserves to be exactly who they are.
YouTube has been a true supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and has celebrated Pride Month annually since 2013. They have an annual #ProudToBe campaign which shines light on transgender, agender and gender-queer identities. Last year they created a Pride 2021 trailer, showing the coming out stories of famous Youtubers and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community across the globe.
In 2019, Starbucks came out with their #WhatsYourName campaign. The advert depicts the challenges of James, a transgender man who is transitioning and does not identify with his birth name ‘Jemma.’ The campaign was even awarded Channel 4’s 2019 Diversity in Advertising Award.
Oreo first posted their rainbow cookie to Facebook in 2012! They then released this as an actual product in 2020!
